The Maple Family

A family or trees and shrubs with opposite leaves which are often palmately-lobed. The flowers have 5 sepals, and 8 stamens. Petals may or may not be present, and if they are, tend to be similar to the sepals. The winged fruit is well known and characteristic.

Closely related families include Hippocastanaceae and Anacardiaceae.
